The Ferrari 400i belongs to a lineage that began with the 365 GT 2+2 of 1972, whose crisp, angular lines, penned by Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina, marked a striking departure from the flowing shapes of earlier Ferrari grand tourers. In 1976, the design evolved into the Ferrari 400, which introduced a 4.8-litre Tipo F101 V12-engine and became the first Ferrari offered with an automatic transmission, a three-speed unit sourced from General Motors.
From 1979, the Ferrari 400i replaced the six Weber carburettors with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, giving the Colombo-derived V12 an output of 310 hp and a top speed of 240 km/h, while making it smoother and more refined than ever. The automatic proved by far the more popular choice, with 883 examples of the 400i Automatic built compared to 422 manuals between 1979 and 1985.
This Ferrari 400i Automatic is finished in Nero over a delicated Crema leather interior. It was delivered new in Switzerland and is offered today with its Ferrari Classiche certification and Swiss veteran title. It reads a mileage of 64'810 km.
