Highlights
Unveiled at the 1971 Turin Motor Show and launched in production form at the 1973 Paris Motor Show, the Ferrari 365 GT4 BB marked a radical turning point for Maranello. As the successor to the front-engined 365 GTB/4 “Daytona”, it abandoned Ferrari’s traditional front-mounted V12 in favour of a mid-mounted 4.4-litre flat-12, derived from the engine of Ferrari's 312B Formula 1 car.
Fed by four triple-choke Weber carburettors, it developed 380 hp and propelled the car to a top speed of more than 280 km/h. Its low, wide wedge-shaped body was penned by Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti, and the 365 GT4 BB remains instantly recognisable by its six taillights and six exhaust tailpipes, a detail unique among Ferrari production cars.
The Berlinetta Boxer also completed a story that had begun with the Dino. The Dino 206 GT and Dino 246 GT had introduced the mid-engined layout to Maranello’s road cars, but they were sold under the Dino name, reserved for Ferrari’s non-V12 models. The 365 GT4 BB was therefore the first mid-engined road car to bear both the Ferrari name and the Prancing Horse, bringing the concept to the very top of the range.
Only 387 examples were built between 1973 and 1976, making the 365 GT4 BB by far the rarest of the BB series. In 1976, it was succeeded by the 512 BB, presented at the Paris Motor Show with an enlarged 4.9-litre flat-12 and dry-sump lubrication, of which 929 were built. From 1981, the 512 BBi followed with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection for cleaner emissions and improved drivability, with 1,007 examples produced until the Boxer era came to an end in 1984.
This Ferrari 365 GT4 BB is finished in its original colours of Marrone Dino Metallizzato 106-M-73 over a Pelle Beige VM 3218 Connolly leather interior. Remarkably, only six examples were originally finished in this exterior colour at the factory.
Completed in Maranello on 20 May 1974, the car was delivered in June 1974 through the French dealer Charles Pozzi S.A. to its first owner, Mr. Jacques Fildier of Paris.
In 2014, it was acquired by a well-known German Ferrari collector, who entrusted its careful restoration to specialists in Maranello.
In 2022, Niki Hasler AG had the pleasure of selling the car to its passionate current Swiss custodian. Through a collaboration with FuoriConcorso and Larusmiani, this 365 GT4 BB was subsequently featured in the book “Berlinetta Boxer: The Legend”.
Today, it is presented in exceptional condition with Matching Colours and Matching Numbers, as confirmed by its Ferrari Classiche certification. It is offered with various original invoices and a Swiss veteran title.
