Highlights
Unveiled at the 1962 Paris Motor Show, the 250 GT Lusso was the final road-going chapter of Ferrari’s legendary 250 GT series, a lineage that had defined the marques trajectory throughout the 1950s and early 1960s. Conceived to bridge the gap between the competition-bred 250 GT SWB Berlinetta and the more practical 250 GTE 2+2, it combined racing pedigree with a new level of comfort and refinement, as its name, “Lusso”, meaning luxury, suggests. Its breathtaking body, designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti in Modena, flows from a low, egg-crate grille into a graceful fastback with a Kamm tail, while thin pillars give the cabin an airy, light-filled feel. Many regard it as one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever built.
Beneath its elegant lines sat the ultimate development of the short-block Colombo 3.0-litre V12, the Tipo 168 U, fed by three Weber carburettors and producing around 250 hp. Riding on a short-wheelbase chassis closely related to the 250 GT SWB and 250 GTO, the Lusso offered wonderful balance and handling, while its leather-trimmed cabin and unique dashboard, with the speedometer and rev counter angled towards the driver in the centre of the dashboard, set it apart from every other Ferrari. Only 350 examples were built before the 250 GT Lusso gave way to the 275 GTB in 1964.
This Ferrari 250 GT Lusso was built in 1963 as the 189th of 350 examples and delivered in January 1964 as a direct factory sale, finished in Grigio Argento 18940 over Pelle Nera VM 8500, as confirmed by its Ferrari Classiche certification. First registered in Italy, the car was imported into Switzerland in 1988, where it has remained ever since, and was comprehensively restored in 2007. It retains its original chassis, body, engine and gearbox and rides on Borrani RW 3801 wire wheels. The differential was replaced with a type-correct unit.
It is offered with known history and the all-important Ferrari Classiche certification. It is delivered fresh from inspection and service and holds a Swiss veteran title.
