The DB5 saloon may owe its global fame to a certain British secret agent, yet the most coveted interpretation of the model was always destined for a far smaller circle. Created for discerning patrons in warmer climes, the DB5 Convertible paired the poise and pace of its closed sibling with remarkable scarcity and the singular delight of grand touring under an open sky.

Beneath its refined lines lies the saloon's proven mechanical heart: a 4.0-litre straight-six breathing through triple SU HD8 carburettors, producing 283 hp and carrying the car to a top speed of more than 225 km/h. Power is delivered through a five-speed ZF gearbox, while chrome wire, electric windows, reclining seats and generous Connolly leather trim complete its luxurious specification.

Freed of its fixed roof, Carrozzeria Touring’s celebrated Superleggera design takes on an even lighter, more graceful character. Delicate chrome detailing, balanced proportions and softly sculpted rear haunches give it a silhouette that seems poised even when standing still. Lower the hood and the car reveals its full character, as the unfiltered voice of the straight-six turns every journey into an occasion.

While close to 1'000 saloons left the works, only 123 examples of the DB5 Convertible were ever built, of which 39 in LHD and 84 in RHD. Far more than a variant, it is the connoisseur’s DB5, and today it stands among the rarest and most desirable British motor cars of any kind.

This Aston Martin DB5 Convertible, chassis DB5C/1263/R, is finished in its original exterior of Midnight Blue over a Beige leather interior today.

On 11 February 1964, DB5C/1263/R was sold by Aston Martin dealer Brooklands of Bond Street to first owner Mr. J. A. Clark, who resided in London.

On 4 September 1982, it was acquired by a Swiss gentleman, then based in New York, USA, through Aston Martin Lagonda of North America Inc., as confirmed by its corresponding original invoice, which further stated that the car was to be exported to Zurich, Switzerland.

On 19 March 1984, the car was officially imported through Swiss customs to the owner's Swiss address, as confirmed by the corresponding original application for clearance of household effects.

From early 2005 to April 2007, this DB5 Convertible underwent a comprehensive restoration with specialists 2 Pi R GmbH, based in Zurich, Switzerland, while still being owned by same said Swiss gentleman. The restoration is thoroughly documented.

Today, this DB5 Convertible is presented in rust-free, exceptionally well-maintained condition and offered from ownership of the same Swiss gentleman who had proudly owned it for more than 40 years. Its history is documented, and the car is offered with a folder full of original documentation including invoices and correspondance, as well as a Swiss veteran title.

While close to a thousand saloons left the works, only 123 convertibles were ever built. Far more than a variant, it is the connoisseur's DB5, and today it stands among the rarest and most desirable British motor cars of any kind.
