From the 1950s into the 1960s, Ferrari was renowned for its grand tourers, which were among the most beautiful in the world. In fact, during this period, the Maranello-based company exclusively designed this model when it came to road cars.
The new Ferrari Amalfi—a 2+ coupé with a V8 engine that replaces the Roma—revives this glorious era with a seductive aluminum body. The Amalfi's refined bodywork perfects the elegant beauty of the Roma and is reminiscent of timeless grand tourers. It is characterized by sharp lines, geometric volumes, and a clear, contemporary aesthetic that has its own unique character: in fact, every exterior body part is different from the Roma.
Ferrari's design department, Centro Stile, has carefully worked out the details and ensured that the aerodynamics do not compromise the purity of the body lines. Worth mentioning are the significantly more purist shark nose and the more technical design of the headlights and taillights.
The vehicle, with 20-inch alloy wheels, photographed here in the launch color Verde Costiera—a bright blue-green reminiscent of the sparkling sea of the Amalfi Coast—definitely makes a statement.
Inside, a dual cockpit offers space for the driver and a passenger and presents a completely new human-machine interface. There are three digital displays: a fully digital instrument panel, a 10.25-inch horizontal central display, and a passenger display. A new steering wheel also marks a return to physical multifunction controls and a start button. Like the exterior, the interior has a cleaner, more modern look.
Thanks to its 2+ seating configuration and generous luggage compartment, the Amalfi is also versatile – whether for everyday use or special weekend getaways.
The car is also designed to inspire. The 3.9-liter V8 engine with an impressive 640 hp outperforms its predecessor by 20 hp, but as with the design, the real magic lies in the details. For better engine response, the camshafts are lighter and the turbochargers now reach 171,000 rpm. The tuning of the exhaust and intake systems also ensures a more exciting sound, especially at medium to high revs.
Crucially, this performance-oriented car is accessible to all drivers. Ferrari's most advanced chassis systems ensure that the Amalfi is as safe as it is agile. These include Brake-by-Wire with ABS Evo, Side Slip Control 6.1, and the 6D sensor for monitoring body movements and immediate response.
The Ferrari Amalfi closes the circle with the glorious grand tourers of the past, while being thoroughly contemporary—a new definition of beauty.
